Good Medicine: Randy Nagitsy on Five Buffalo Days, Culture, and Community Responsibility

On this episode of the Indian Relay Podcast, hosts Ivan Posey and Al Hubbard welcome Randy Nagitsy from the Office of Indian Education at Fort Washakie School for a conversation about the return and rebuilding of Five Buffalo Days — Manigit Bojandave.

Randy shares how the week-long event came together through months of planning, collaboration, and community support, including partnerships with the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative, MMIR 307, school staff, cultural presenters, students, families, and tribal leaders. The discussion covers the buffalo harvest, the MMIW/MMIP walk, powwow, fashion show, fry bread contest, classroom learning, Shoshone and Northern Arapaho cultural presence, and the importance of giving students memories and teachings they can carry forward.

At its heart, this episode is about responsibility, collaboration, cultural learning, and the good medicine that comes when students, families, educators, and community members show up for one another.
